For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology F.I.R.S.T is known for its annual robotics competition known as
"The Competition," in which corporations and/or universities team-up
with high schools in a high-tech sporting event which pits robots
against each other.
The mission of the F.I.R.S.T Robotics competition is to
inspire curiosity and create interest in science, mathematics,
technology, and communications among today's youths by immersing them
in a world of engineering, and showing the important connection between
classroom lessons and real-world applications.
Robots are designed, built, and programmed in just six weeks
by teams of students, teachers, corporate engineers, and other
corporate professionals. The responsibility of the corporations in the
Competition is not only to teach science and technology, but rather to
inspire students to pursue careers in these fields.
The F.I.R.S.T Robotics competition is an international
engineering contest from which students have a hands-on, inside look at
the engineering profession. In six intense weeks team members, assisted
by faculty, community volunteers, and other corporate professionals
complete real-world tasks.
